Description: Ep.282 How should Korea respond to deglobalization? The New York Times reported that the war in Ukraine is forcing countries to retreat from globalization, which has been a major driver for the global economy for decades. The report quoted an expert who said economic integration is not likely to survive a period of political disintegration. In addition to political conflicts unfolding around the world, supply chain bottlenecks stemming from the pandemic are adding further momentum to the deglobalization trend. There is speculation that the world economy will split into blocs based on geopolitical interests, with the U.S. and the West on one side and China and Russia on the other. In this week’s edition of Foreign Correspondents, we sit down with our panel of journalists to discuss the latest signs of a shift in the world order and examine how export-driven economies like Korea should respond to this trend. In-studio guests Thomas Maresca / UPI Sebastien Falletti / Le Figaro Eum Ji-young, Arirang TV Skype guest Markus Kornprobst, Professor of International Relations / Vienna School of International Studies Ep.282 ‘脫세계화’ 움직임 속 한국 대응 방안 우크라이나 전쟁, 팬데믹 등으로 전 세계를 하나의 공동체로 엮던 '세계화'의 흐름이 뒷걸음질 치고 있다고 미국 뉴욕타임스(NYT)가 보도했다. 각국의 정치적 갈등이 극심해지면서 경제적 결속도 느슨해지고 있다는 것. 서방국가들의 러시아 경제 제재로 세계 경제 규모 11위 러시아가 세계경제에서 사실상 분리됐다. 여기에 이미 미국의 광범위한 경제 제재를 받는 경제규모 세계 2위 중국도 세계 경제에서 분리된다면, 세계 경제의 충격이 훨씬 클 것이다. 정치적 갈등 외에 코비드19 팬데믹으로 인한 세계 공급망 차질, 일부 국가의 전면 봉쇄 등도 글로벌 기업들의 '탈세계화' 흐름을 부추기고 있다. 이런 흐름 속에 정치적으로 가까운 국가들이 새롭게 헤쳐모여 새로운 '경제권역'을 구성할 가능성도 있다는 분석이 나온다. 세계 경제 규모의 20%를 차지하는 러시아·중국이 자국과 가까운 국가들, 서방 제재 회피하고자 하는 국가들과 함께 별도의 경제 연맹을 꾸릴 수 있다는 것. 정치적 분열과 편가르기 등으로 ‘탈세계화’가 가속화되고 있는 국제정세 속 세계경제를 전망해보고, 수출위주의 경제구조를 가진 한국 경제가 나아갈 방향을 모색해본다.
